The 41st World Chess Olympiad will be hosted by Norwegian Tromsø
On its last working day the FIDE General Assembly of the 81st FIDE Congress was taking the decision on the venue of the 41st World Chess Olympiad 2014. There were two cities bidding to host the world forum – Bulgarian Albena and Norwegian Tromsø. The bidding procedure lasted several days including presentations of the candidates – candidates and discussions of the issue.
As a result the majority of FIDE delegates voted for Norway as the hosting country of the 41st World Chess Olympiad 2014.

Yay! Thank you Susan!
Congratulations, to Tromso and to Susan for her hard work in making Tromso’s bid successful. Perhaps, one day before I kick the bucket, someone will put together a serious bid to host an international event like this in the United States.

Jan,
There is a LOT of work involved to have a successful bid. There are always potential problems which can kill the bid. We took nothing for granted. We were talking to delegates everyday since I arrived in Khanty-Mansiysk. The preparation already started back in Dresden.
This is the 2nd Chess Olympiad I am involved with. The first one was in Dresden. The problem is very few people in the US (USCF) know how to do this. Even with $15-$20 million in the pocket, it is not a sure thing.
The government of Norway had to add 600,000 euros overnight to the bid to overcome any possible objection.
Best wishes,
Susan
I doubt that the bozos at the USCF would ever ask Susan for help. She’s too big and Goichberg is afraid so he’s doing everything possible to keep her out so he and his cronies can milk more money from the USCF.
Congatulations to Norway and all its participants. The hard work is done, but there will be much more.
Now it’s time to enjoy the victory,
Cheers,
I hope Holland will get an event like this soon.
Quorthon.
