Chess tourney on tap for students
“There will be some fairly strong players in there,” said Barber, a retired teacher from the Buena Park School District.
The tournament – co-hosted by the Fullerton Host Lions Club, the Hanley Chess Academy in Huntington Beach and American Chess Equipment in Anaheim – is named for the late Bernard Morrison, a Stanton resident who taught and promoted the game at schools throughout Orange County.
Unrated players play for free.
Players rated by the U.S. Chess Federation and those competing against rated players pay $10 to compete.
Non-rated players can register by e-mailing amchesseq@aol.com.
Rated players can register at hanleychessacademy.com.
The registration deadline is 10 p.m. Friday.
