Guwahati, Aug. 22: Altogether six players shared the lead with full three points after three rounds in the 37th National Women Challenger Chess Championship under way at the Shilpgram auditorium here since Friday.

Those leading the tally included women Fide masters Bharathi R., Saranya J, Swati Mohota, Devangi Patangkar, Amrutha Mokal and Harini S.

Seven players were sharing the second position with 2.5 points while 15 others were in the third position with two points each.

Though there was no major upset in the third round, top seeded women International master Bhagyashree Thipsay was yet again held to a draw by lower ranked Shetye Siddhali of Maharashtra.

Thipsay was earlier held to a draw in the first round by a much lower ranked Vaishnavi Akhade.

In the third round top board, second seeded Bharathi R. outwitted Anjana Krishna in a hard fought rook endgame that lasted for more than four hours. The match evoked keen interest among the spectators as it headed for a draw but a brilliant display of accurate play and nerves saw Bharathi home.
