For the 37th consecutive year “Ikaros” renews its annual appointment with Greek and foreign players at the beautiful island of Ikaria for the traditional international chess tournament that this year will take place at Aghios Kirykos, the capital of the island, from 12th till 20th of July.

The 37th Ikaros International Chess Tournament 2014 incorporates the Aegean Open Championship 2014

Once again, the main objective of “Ikaros” is to offer to all its guests an interesting tournament combined with relaxing vacation for a very reasonable price. To this end, the organization committee of the tournament made a considerable effort so as to keep the overall participation cost low.

The basic package per person in a double room costs 200 euros for the period 12-20 July and includes accommodation (the board expenses are not included), entry fee, daily transportation to the playing venue and transportation from and to the port of Evdilos (in case this is necessary due to the ferry schedule).

Prices get lower in case of triple of four bed rooms, while, as every year, there are special discounts for families, juniors, club teams and unemployed people. Moreover there are additional discounts for those who will pay in advance. Additionally, like the previous years, the organization committee will try to get reduced ferry ticket prices for the tournament participants.

The official announcement of the tournament also includes various side events (the annual Mediterranean Team Rapid Tournament, blitz and blind tournaments, problem solving contest etc.) can be found here or can be downloaded as .doc or .pdf.

For those who have visited Ikaria before, the island doesn’t need any particular credentials, but those who plan to visit it for the first time can find useful information at,, and while those who want to get an idea about the tournament and learn what other players have to say about the event can visit the following links:
