Negi leads as three more GMs bite dust

NEW DELHI: The seventh edition of Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament become Waterloo for Grandmasters as three more joined the list of causalities after fourth round here at the Modern School on Tuesday.
Former National Champion and Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte suffered a shock defeat from the hands of Kazakh International Master Boris Katalymov, while Chennai-based C Praveen Kumar got the better off 2004 edition winner GM Saidali Iuldachev of Uzbekistan.
Grandmaster Anuar Ismagambetov of Kasakhstan also tasted defeat in the fourth round as he went down against International Master Prathmesh Mokal.
As many as eight players including local favourite Parimarjan Negi is leading the table with perfect score after four rounds.
On the top table, Yuriy Kuzubov of Ukraine signed peace treaty against IM SP Sethuraman in just 15 moves while Arghyadip Das held national champion Surya Sekhar Ganguly for a creditable draw in marathon match that lasted 88 moves.
Playing with black pieces Wizkid Negi overcame Olzhas Khamzin of Kazakhstan in just 30 moves without much struggle.
Surprisingly Kazakh GM Nurlan Ibrayev, who lost his first round match against nine year old Hetul Shah once again, tasted defeat from the hands of low rated Mohammed Irshad.
