2012 Canadian Junior Chess Championship Starts Tomorrow in Calgary, Canada!
From January 5 to 8, the Calgary Junior Chess Club will be hosting the 2012 Canadian Junior Chess Championship. It is with great pleasure to mention the top seed FM Shiyam Thavandiran, 2010 World U-10 Champion Jason Cao, and Alberta’s 2nd highest rated junior after IM Eric Hansen, Richard Wang, are amongst the 17 best and talent juniors competing in the event.
Background information of the championship:
In September of 2011, the Chess Federation of Canada has awarded the Calgary the right to host the Canadian Junior Chess Championship. The last time it was held in Calgary was in 2004. The organizing team consists of Frank Klutymans (chief organizer), IA Vlad Rekhson, Paul Gagne, Tony Ficzere, Angelo Tolentino, NM Dan Kazmaier, IO Simon Ong, Nicka/Alex Kalaydina.
The winner of this prestigious event will receive a travel flight vouchers to represent Canada in the World Junior Chess Championship in Athens, Greece. This event will consist of 7 rounds swiss with time control of 40 moves in 90 minutes, 30 minutes + 30 second increment from move 1. The championship will be CFC and FIDE rated!

January 4th- FM Shiyam Thavandiran Simul from 2 pm-5 pm.
January 4th- Canadian Junior Blitz Championship from 6 pm-10 pm.
