The 2006 Chess Olympiad will take place from May 20 – June 4, 2006 in Turin, Italy.
– Which will be the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in the Men’s and Women’s Olympiad?
– Which place will the US Men’s and Women’s Team finish?
US Men’s Team:
GM Gata Kamsky
GM Alex Onischuk
GM Hikaru Nakamura
GM Ildar Ibragimov
GM Gregory Kaidanov
* GM V. Akobian (My guess)
Captain: IM John Donaldson
US Women’s Team:
IM Anna Zatonskih
IM Irina Krush
WGM Rusa Goletiani
* WGM Camilla Baginskaite (My guess)
Captain: GM Yury Shulman
It is just a little more than 2 weeks away and we have no official words from the USCF. The above is just my speculation.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Good luck to all involved.
It appears as though the record setting U.S. women cant even field a team to play in The Olympiad, and having little or no chance at the gold. Having won a silver medal, the 1st ever for the U.S. women’s team, the USCF sabotages the following event by having no organization, no plan of training, and keeping secret the teams coach and players. This gave Susan, a former World Champion and the best America has to offer no choice but to decline competing.

Tatev Abrahamyan should be on the team. A mishap in the calculation of qualifying points cost her the spot. Tatev was 17 years old on January 1 and didn’t turn 18 until later that month. This cost her the 10 points that would have put her over the top.
Both teams will come top twenty.
If both teams finish top 20 they should stay home and take up checkers! LOL!

I’ll say Men’s team 3rd.. I’m optimistic…and Women’s team 8th
It appears the USCF has announced this now:

Unfortunate that the USCF does not follow the recipe of the last one with the womens team.
Hope they do well….but would be better to follow Sasans last model.
Why fix something that worked so well?? are they crazy?
Mayby its just me.
Regards
I think the US champion should be 1st board. I think the coach of the women’s team should be 2nd board.
