Try: 1…Nxf2 2 Kxf2 Bxf3 and 3…Qh4+
It’s an interesting move. Since I was following the game, not answering here.
The computer on Chessdom was showing it as the tactical shot in the previous move, but Giri didn’t play it then — he missed it then, playing …h6 instead. But he saw it in the next move 🙂
I had already seen this yesterday. Giri put Caruana out of his misery with 1. …Nf2. Caruana took at f2 but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. The game continued
1. …..Nf2
2. Kf2 Bf3
3. gf3 Qh4
4. Kf1 Qh3
5. Kf2 Qg3
6. Kf1 Re5 and the threat of Rh5-Rh1 can’t be parried in any effective way.
Black can win three pawns and a strong attack for a knight.
1……. Nxf2!?
2. Kxf2 Bxf3!
3. gxf3
( White cannot keep his pawn structure intact with
3. Bxf3 Qh4+
4. Kf1 Rxe1+
5. Rxe1 Rxe1# )
3……. Qh4+
4. Kf1 Qxh3+
5. Kf2 Qg3+
6. Kf1 Black has achieved enough.
I feel that black can continue quite confidently after 6…. Ne5! with enough threats.
1…. Nxf2

2.Bd3 Nxd1
3.Rxe7 Qxe7
4.Qxd1 Bxf3
5.gxf3 Qh4
6.Be4 Qxh3+
7.Kg1 Rxe4
8.fxe4 f3
9.Qd2 Ne5
10.c6 with a powerful attack and a pawn advantage
