Costs on Baku Cup 2015 and Chess Olympiad 2016 to reach at least EUR 15 million

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Costs of the Baku World Chess Cup, as well as the Chess Olympiad and FIDE General Assembly in 2016 have been published. 

Vice President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) Mahir Mammadov has informed that when presenting its bid to host these events, Azerbaijan committed to direct for this purpose at least 15 million euro – 3 million euro for the World Cup and the rest for the Olympiad and the General Assembly.

“According to the commitments, the World Cup prize fund will be 1.6 million euro, and the participants will undertake the full cost of their accommodation in Baku. The costs for the Olympiad also include the cost of assistance to developing countries in the sending of their teams to Baku to enhance the representation that is a common practice,” Mammadov said.

The agreements on the World Chess Cup and the Olympiad have been signed today in Baku by FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, ACF president Elman Rustamov and Youth & Sports Minister Azad Rahimov.

“The agreements also say of the purchase of all commercial rights for World Cup 2015 and Olympiad 2016 by Azerbaijan from FIDE,” Mammadov said.

Since the beginning of this week the finalizing of the agreements was conducted by AGF and FIDE vice presidents Georgios Makropoulos and M. Mammadov.
