Tuesday, 15 April 2008
The Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008 is continuously met with great approval in all parts of the world. As many as 75 nations have registered to participate in the worldwide largest and most important chess event. Most registrations (27) are from Europe. 18 have so far been noted from the Americas, 17 from Asia and 12 from Africa.
Further confirmations are on hand from for instance: Argentina, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Bermuda, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, El Salvador, Faroer Islands, Hongkong, Indonesia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Somalia and even the newly founded Maldivian chess federation has pre-registered.
In total, the organizers expect the arrival of more than 1000 chess players of 150 open and 120 women’s teams.
Have the US teams been selected yet?
Can the USCF afford to send a real team? Maybe they can send a couple of 4th grader to save money. After all, we all need to contribute to the Goichberg legal fund.
“In total, the organizers expect the arrival of more than 1000 chess players of 150 open and 120 women’s teams.”
Do the organizers see the coming people as chess players or as sources of profit?
I’d never go to Germany. There is evil there.
All hosts of chess olympiad lose money. It costs more than $6 million to bid for this and they’ll never recover it.
I agree with one of the anons above. I also don’t think the USCF can afford a strong team.

The USCF will be moving into the same cardboard box Sloani is living in real soon.
Poor USCF.
